How to help
Edmonton City Council has approved Edmonton Power's $115 million expansion
of the Rossdale Power Plant. This paves the way for further expansions. It
means EPCOR can make an industrial eyesore a permanent part of our downtown
river valley. The historic Maxwell Dewar Building building will be
demolished. The larger unsightly high-pressure building with taller stacks
will be retained. A new, taller building will replace the historic
building. The expansion will be 20 feet taller and even larger than the
existing plant. It will diminish the prominence of the Legislature
Building. This is not the right place for a
massive power plant - but that will be our legacy for another hundred years
unless we speak out now!
Here are some of the things you can do:
With your help, this project can be stopped:
- There are other, more appropriate, locations for EPCOR's expansion.
- There are other ways for EPCOR to achieve its financial goals.
- Edmontonians must see what the Rossdale Expansion would look like.
- Plans for further expansions must be disclosed.
- Edmontonians deserve to have a say about the future of our river valley.
- As a smart city, let's redevelop the waterfront area of our city centre with imagination.
